Join the car club!

Residents in the Belle Vue area ca now take advantage of a new ‘pay as you go’ driving initiative, courtesy of two local housing companies which wanted to say thank you to the local community.

Saxonby Homes and Floreat Holmes have been on site at Trinity Street in Belle Vue for several months now creating Besford Gardens, a development of 11 luxury home. Through its sponsorship they are offering 20 local residents free membership to Co-wheels Shropshire car club, which provides pay-as-you-drive cars across the UK. The car will be located for collection and drop-off at The Prince of Wales pub in Bynner Street, near to Besford Gardens.

James Wood, director at Saxonby Homes said: "We’re delighted to be able to sponsor Co-wheels - it’s our way of saying thank you to the local residents who have been very supportive of our new development. We’re extremely proud of Besford Gardens and we hope the car club will create a long-term legacy for the Belle Vue community."

Matthew Hill, head of development at Floreat Homes added: “We wanted to show our appreciation to the residents of Belle Vue for their patience and consideration while Besford Gardens has been taking shape. The car club is ideal because the area is only a short walk from the town centra and transport networks, so owning a car all the time isn’t necessary.”

“This way the local community can car share, without the worry and expense of parking or insurance - although Besford Gardens is fortunate enough to have off-road parking. Car clubs have proved very popular in other areas and w’re hopeful that the initiative will be beneficial to the residents of Belle Vue.”

Co-wheels Shropshire is one of a range of Co-wheels locations across the UK, from city centre to smaller community-led and owned car club operations, all focused on satisfying local need.

There are five cars available in Shrewsbury and Ludlow - all re fuel-efficient Fords, of various sizes.

Co-wheels members can also use any car in the Co-wheels network across the UK. Co-wheels Shropshire is managed by a local social enterprise, Shropshire Car Club CIC, with volunteer directors and a supporters-group in each of the two town where cars are located.
